Upcoming seminar on the local opiate epidemic

RADEODawn Farm is a sponsor of this RADEO (Regional Anti-Drug Education & Outreach) event. It’s not free ($35), but we’re familiar with some of the speakers and they are outstanding. If you’re concerned about the opiate epidemic in the region, this is an excellent opportunity to learn about it and connect with people who are taking action to address it.
Here’s their description of the seminar:

The Real Stark Truth of the Modern Opiate Epidemic:

Historical, Cultural, Medical, Psychological, Intervention  and Addictions Perspectives and Discussion of Challenges, Trends, and Solutions.

The purpose of this Seminar is to present a comprehensive description of the opiate epidemic in America. We will be learning about the historic opiate destabilization of world cultures. We will be presented with powerful personal stories from the family members of those who have been lost. Creative expressions designed to elicit action from participants may be used. We will be educated on the current trends of opiate use and sales in the United States and Michigan in specific. We will concentrate on the new DSM 5 criteria for Substance Use Disorders as it applies to the diagnosis and treatment of opiate addictions.  We will learn from those who have implemented various opiate maintenance protocols and have evolved practices and policies to reflect lessons learned. We will be taught about current legislation that affects the use of opiates and legal repercussions. Successful interventions on those suffering with Opiate Use Disorders will be discussed and will explore what works and what does not, to motivate the addict. We will explore billing and insurance implications of the switch to DSM 5. Treatment innovations and victories will belooked at and presented in the hopes of making a better impact on the treatment of these individuals and their families.
